| Well, Bonnie and I finally have received a glimmer of good news concerning our house. We have been told that the couple that we talked about in church last Sunday (a couple who looked at our house last week) is going to put in an offer tomorrow. They would have done so today, but there was a death in the family and the funeral was today.
On top of this, another family looked at our house today. Our realtor told the realtor for the family going to put in the offer that the house was being showed and she said, "oh boy, I hope they don't put in an offer because these people really want it!"
Of course, there are lots of things we don't know. We don't know what the offer will be. We don't know how good the credit is of the people making the offer. We don't know if they have a house to sell themselves. The list goes on and on.
From my perspective, the best of all possible outcomes would be for both to put in an offer, want it desperately and starting bidding against one another! I doubt that will happen, but I can always hope!
Still, this is all in God's hands. He will do as he deems best--and his ways are always the best ways. So I will pray for my hearts desire in this matter and leave the results up to him!

| Well, I’m still frightfully behind on everything, I have a stack of mail sitting in front of me, I need to prepare for Bible Study tonight, and I need to start reading my assignments for this week (since the books were at home but I wasn’t). Nevertheless, I’m going to take a few minutes and tell the rest of the story (to borrow a phrase from Paul Harvey).
After I posted the last time, a weather front came through Chicago and the flights to Grand Rapids were canceled for the rest of the night. Yes friends and neighbors, we had to spend another night in a very nice hotel that we couldn’t enjoy because we had so little time to sleep.
That sleep time was cut even shorter by the cleaning crew of the hotel. It seems that while they were vacuuming the sales office, the dust set off the fire alarm! So at 1:00 AM (exactly) Bonnie and I were jolted out of bed by a terribly, terribly loud, obnoxious, loud buzzer. Did I mention that it was incredibly loud? We shuffled out of the building along with the other weary refugees from the airport. Bonnie remembered her shoes. I remembered my Dodge hat.
The next morning we got on the plane and actually had a flight arrive on time! But wait, the story doesn't end yet.
We just purchased new luggage for this trip. Our old luggage had been around the world and was about reading to give up the ghost. So, we figured, we would buy new luggage and use it for several more years. American Tourister used to be a good name in luggage, so that is what we purchased. Not one, but two of our bags broke: one carry-on and on check in. The check-in had the plastic feet broken off and each of the handles broken off. But will American Airlines fix what they broke? I bet you can guess the answer. If it is sticking out from the main body of the luggage, they claim they are not responsible. Oh, and they lost one of our bags.
We got the lost luggage delivered latter in the day.
Needless to say, it is good to be home. ?

| Well, I guess I have time to update this site. I haven't updated in forever, but there is a reason for that. I am so far behind in everything, this always seems like a waste of time. Whenever I think of updating this site, I always think "there are so many more important things you could be doing." So I never get around to it. But today...(heavy sigh)....today is different. I seem to have plenty of time today.
I'm stuck inside the Miami airport waiting on an airplane to take me to Chicago and then to Grand Rapids. I'm stuck with Bonnie, so it's a lot more enjoyable than it could be. I always like being with Bonnie no matter where I am. But if I had my druthers, I'd have been home by now.
It started yesterday when we were scheduled to leave Santa Cruz, Bolivia at 9:00 AM. But because American Airlines overbooked the flight from Miami, they were delayed 3 hours into Santa Cruz. Thus, we didn't leave until noon. Because of that, we missed all our connecting flights. This means, of course, that we spent the evening last night standing in line getting through immigration, standing in line getting our baggage (the baggage carousel broke), standing in line getting through customs, and standing in line trying to get new flights.
After that, we were given vouchers for the Sheraton Hotel and meal vouchers for the hotel. The room was very nice, but they only gave us $10 apiece to eat on at the hotel. How wonderfully convenient for the hotel that NOTHING on the menu cost under $15.
We got about 6 hours of sleep and were back at the airport this morning. We stood in line to get our baggage checked, and then were loaded onto the plane. We waited and waited and waited for a “quick maintenance check” until it was finally determined that the plane was broken. So we were herded off and have been waiting for another plane to come available so that we can get on with our trip. Oh, did I mention that we missed our connecting flight in Chicago and had to get ANOTHER flight scheduled? More standing in line.
No word on the house as of yet. Our realtor’s husband died suddenly, so we have a new realtor now. She said that houses just aren’t moving at the moment. She has eight other listings and is getting no showings on any of them. She expects things to pick up after Memorial Day……
Still, God is good to us. We have had all of our needs met. We have never been without shelter or clothing or food. Lots\ of people in the world can’t say that. So we wait upon him to sovereignly determine what is best for us and trust him in the process.
Our ministry in Santa Cruz was very rewarding. The class was great. I loved the students. And it was good for me to review the theology of the Kingdom (the subject I taught). Bonnie worked at a ministry for homeless women. But I’ll let her post that on her site! Yeah right

| Ok, since I was tagged by both Lizzie and Derrick, here are five weird facts/habits about myself.
1. I am obsessive compulsive about some things. I'm not saying what, because people will use it to drive me crazy. But some things that you wouldn't normally consider must be just so. Nothing big, just little stuff. Probably the things that are prime indicators for mental illness.
2. I am passionate about being correct when it comes to interpreting God's Word. This is one reason, I suspect, that I am perpetually behind in my PhD work. I always want to ensure that I've done everything I possibly can to understand the passage and interprete it correctly.
3. I don't mind standing in front of a crowd of people and talking, but I get scared silly standing in front of people and singing. I still do it, but I tend to overcompensate by excessive practice.
4. I don't like trying new foods. Usually I let my wife try the new menu items and I take a bite of hers.
5. I have thought a lot about the way that I want to die. Given the choice (which, of course, I haven't) I would like to die a martyrs death. I definitely do not want to die in bed with tubes in me. If I can't be a martyr, I would like to die during my Sunday afternoon nap after preaching a great sermon where people were saved.
I now tag Alexandra, Becky, Caleb, Josh, and Trevor.
Here are the rules: Since I was tagged, I have to write five weird facts/habits about myself. I then go tag five other people (and let them know I have tagged them), and I am forced to write who I tag in the post. whoever I tag must then do what I'm doing - play the game. also, I must clearly state the rules of the game (which I just did). (BTW, I just copied this more or less from Lizzie's site) | | |
| I was checking out Lizzie's site and came across this quiz....so I took it. Here are the results:
 | You scored as William Wallace. The great Scottish warrior William Wallace led his people against their English oppressors in a campaign that won independence for Scotland and immortalized him in the hearts of his countrymen. With his warrior's heart, tactician's mind, and poet's soul, Wallace was a brilliant leader. He just wanted to live a simple life on his farm, but he gave it up to help his country in its time of need.
Neo, the "One" | | 71% | William Wallace | | 71% | Captain Jack Sparrow | | 67% | Batman, the Dark Knight | | 67% | Indiana Jones | | 63% | The Terminator | | 63% | James Bond, Agent 007 | | 58% | Maximus | | 58% | Lara Croft | | 50% | El Zorro | | 46% | The Amazing Spider-Man | | 33% |
Which Action Hero Would You Be? v. 2.0 created with QuizFarm.com |
I don't really understand why SpiderMan is last on this quiz and first on the other one. Hmmmmm....maybe it has something to do with a general lack of investigative rigor and sound methods.
